Once all requirements have been met, proceed

Deadlines

The ABLE application portal typically opens when program planning begins (i.e. October for Spring, March for Fall semester, etc…)

• Spring '25: Jan 17, 2025
• Summer '25: May 1, 2025
• Fall '25: August 18, 2025

After your section of the application is completed, an email will be sent to your site supervisor requesting they complete their portion. A check mark indicates successful completion.

NOTE: a delay on their part will hinder their process.

The following steps must be completed by the employer/host (as part of the student’s online application):

• Complete Organization Information Form
• Complete Job Description Form
• Sign Student Learning Goals and Objectives
• Sign ABLE Internship Credit Agreement

Once the ABLE Office receives notice the employer's portion has been completed, the Department chair(s) (or a representative) will review the online application and either approve, deny or place it in a "reviewed" status. Reviewed means the application has been reviewed by the department chair but there are some issues or concerns. Notes may be added so students are encouraged to check back often until the internship is either approved or denied.

The ABLE Office staff will conduct a preliminary review of your application as well as process it once approved; and then generate an email from ABLE to you with the information [i.e. permission number] needed to register for the three credit 490/491/497 course (which accompanies all internships for credit). You must register yourself for the 490/491/497 course once you've received a permission number. Classes are generally delivered on-line with only a few face to face meetings.

NOTE: Details of the first class meeting as well as information about the mandatory online pre-internship seminar will also be in the email from ABLE.

Please allow 7-10 business days for your application to be reviewed, approved and processed. You may experience additional delays during peak times [i.e. close to deadline]!

Check your SU email account daily-even during breaks!

Register for you 490/491 course on GullNet.

After receiving an email from ABLE providing a permission number, go to GullNet to register. The permission number will guide you to appropriate 490/491/497 course for your major. You can register during normal registration periods and during drop/add.

Keep in mind: If you choose to complete your 490 course during the summer term, a bill will be generated. All ABLE courses are 3-credits.
